Sherwood Huts are a group of musterers huts, situated on the banks of the beautiful Lottery River, surrounded by shady trees; with great views of the bush clad hills and mountains. To get to them you have to ford a mountain river a number of times and they provide a genuine rustic high country accommodation experience.
These historic, secluded huts have been used over several decades by various hunters, shepherds and Kiwis wanting to get away from the rat race. They really are iconic huts - basic, dry, warm, "do it yourself" type accommodation, with bunk rooms, separate living room and kitchen, and outside shower/toilet. The huts can sleep up to 11 people.
There is plenty to see and do around the huts, with easy access to the hills and mountains for walking, horse riding and hunting (Red deer, wild pigs and Chamois abound), the river and gorge to explore (complete with its own marine fossils) and nature all around you.A popular option we now have is to combine a breath-taking two or three day horse ride over mountains, through forests and across rivers with the timeless experience of staying in the secluded historic Sherwood Huts, in paradise at an affordable price.....
